Which Michigan counties have the largest percentage of excessive drinkers?
According to data from nonprofit County Health Rankings, Isabella County leads the pack with 23 percent of adults reporting binge or heavy drinking.
When it comes to metro Detroit, Monroe County has the largest percentage of excessive drinkers with around 22 percent reporting.
The organization defines binge drinking as women consuming more than four drinks on a single occasion or men consuming more than five drinks on a single occasion. Heavy drinking is defined as women having more than one drink per day on average or men having more than two drinks per day on average.

According to the survey, for Michigan overall, about 20 percent of adults reported binge or heavy drinking within 30 days of the data being collected.
County Health Rankings references a statistic from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that indicates about 80,000 deaths occur from excessive drinking each year in the United States.
