(WXYZ) — Ferndale Schools released students from the middle school and high school early Tuesday after a threatening note was reportedly found in the bathroom.

The schools share the same campus.

The district texted an alert to parents earlier morning saying that the middle and high schools were in lockdown on the Ferndale High School campus.

School officials did an early release for the students at 11:30 a.m.

"This isn't the way to go about things, this isn't the way to have your conflicts resolved, this isn't the way to get a day off of school," said one parent.

A student said, "it's kind of embarrassing because ... they're ... messing their entire lives up, because like, even like a joke, that could ... prevent them from getting into their dream college."

Ferndale police say they have arrested a 16-year-old male student in connection to today's threat.

“Parents and families, we implore you to talk with your students about the seriousness of false threats,” said Ferndale Police Captain David Spellman in a press release. “Threats are crimes, whether the person intends on carrying out the threat or not. Any threat will be investigated fully and presented to the County Prosecutor. These kinds of incidents also cause undue stress and trauma on students and families and take officers away from real emergencies.”

On Monday, both the middle school and high school were closed after a threat was posted to social media. Ferndale police say a 16-year-old female student has been arrested in that case.
