NAPLES, Fla. – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis wants students in the state to learn civics.

The governor made a stop at the North Collier County Regional Park in Naples on Tuesday, where he announced students will now be required to learn civics education in school.

DeSantis says it will teach them the system of governments and principals that underlay our Constitution.

Under the new rules, high school seniors will now be required to take a civics test similar to the citizenship exam taken by naturalized citizens.

However, student won’t need pass the exam to graduate, at least for now. A spokesperson for the governor told The News Service of Florida that “for now, a student who does not pass the civics exam may still graduate from high school if all other requirements are fulfilled.”
