Here are 2 labels to check on toys to find out if they meet the latest safety standards

With the holiday season in full swing, shoppers are heading to the stores to get the latest toys. Before you do, there are two codes you should check to see if they meet the latest safety standards.

The first thing you'll want to do is look for the combination ASTMF963, which means the toy meets the latest safety standard.

Those standards include that the toys have been tested for choking hazards, sharp edges and other potential dangers.

The second number to check is ASTMD4236, which means art materials have been reviewed by a toxicologist.

While toys are required to meet specific safety standards, they are not required by law to have the labels indicating they do meet them.

In some cases, toys may not have the ASTM label.

The Consumer Safety Product Commission says another good way to protect your children is to buy age-appropriate toys.
