ION Audio portable speakers recalled due to hydrogen gas leak causing explosion hazard

More than 40,000 ION Audio portable speakers are being recalled because they can explode.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, "hydrogen gas can leak from the portable speaker battery when charging and the speaker can burst, posing an explosion hazard."

ION Audio has received five reports of speakers exploding. The explosions caused property damage in four incidents. No injuries have been reported.

The portable speakers listed below are included in the recall:

The Sport Express speakers were sold exclusively at Best Buy from June 2018 through May 2019. Cornerstone, Cornerstone Glow and Keystone speakers were sold at various electronic stores nationwide and online from March 2016 through March 2019.

Consumers with the recalled portable speakers should immediately stop using them and contact ION Audio at 833-682-0371 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday, or online at www.ionaudio.com, for a refund in the form of an ION Audio gift card.
