Three children missing after car swept away by floodwaters in Arizona

Multiple agencies are searching for three children who are missing after a vehicle they were in was swept away by flood waters in Gila County, Arizona.

According to the Gila County Sheriff's Office, a vehicle tried to cross Tonto Creek at the Bar X crossing at about 4 p.m. local time Friday but was swept up by flooding.

Two adults and four children made it out fo the car alive. One of the adults and the children were later rescued from an island in the creek, and the second adult was able to make it to the creek bank. They were eventually rescued and taken to shore with the assistance of a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office helicopter.

Three additional children in the vehicle are still missing from the group, the sheriff's office says.

A Department of Public Safety helicopter has been called in to assist with search and rescue operations.
