Officials identify US marshal shot and killed in the line of duty in Arizona

TUCSON, Arizona — A U.S. deputy marshal who died in the line of duty in a shooting with a suspect Thursday has been identified.

Chase White, 41, was serving an active felony warrant around 5:30 p.m. for 26-year-old Ryan Schlesinger for stalking law enforcement when he was shot on scene.

The Tucson Police Department confirmed the fallen marshal was not alone at the scene and was with other officers.

After the shooting occurred, police officers responded by sending units to the scene and surrounding the house.

Schlesinger surrendered to police and per the Tucson Police Department, was not injured and brought into custody without incident.

White was rushed with the hospital but died from injuries.

U.S. Marshal David Gonzales, who serves the district of Arizona, is at the hospital with  White.

The department is working with federal agencies to investigate the situation and is offering their deep condolences to White's family.
