(WXYZ) — The Oakland County Sheriff's Office says the shelter in place at Oakland University has been lifted.

Earlier Monday morning, police asked students to stay indoors while they searched for two suspects who could be armed.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, multiple police agencies searched the campus for the two suspects who reportedly fled from a crash scene on southbound I-75.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said a witness told officials the two individuals matching the description of the suspects left the area hours ago. They have since released the shelter in place.

We're told the situation started in Genesee County where suspects allegedly stole three cars. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the occupants exchanged gunfire with a security guard during the theft.
