Preliminary work is expected to begin Monday on the second segment of rebuilding I-75 in Oakland County.

The Michigan Department of Transportation's two-year $224 million investment between Coolidge Highway and 13 Mile Road includes reconstructing pavement, replacing bridges and modernizing the freeway.

Preliminary work will begin with crews widening and paving the shoulders for an eventual traffic shift in 2019, putting all traffic on the southbound side of the freeway with two lanes open in each direction.

MDOT says the work will require intermittent single-lane closures on I-75 at various locations and is expected to be completed in mid-December.

The project will begin in early spring 2019.
