WARREN, MI (WXYZ) — A train derailment that happened at 10 Mile and Schoenherr Thursday left several roads closed for hours.

Many intersections are now back open but Stephens Road remains closed between Hoover and Schoenherr and 9 Mile remains closed between Groesbeck and Hoover. Drivers are advised to avoid the areas for the time being.
Chris Essenmacher lives near the train tracks where 12 Canadian national cars derailed leading to an hours-long road closure and clean-up that is still underway.
"I always thought some kind of incident would happen eventually," he said.
Not only is the traffic a headache, but officials also say some of the 151 total train cars carried chlorine and hydrochloric acid. Thankfully those stayed on the tracks.
"Yea, we thankful he didn't get hurt. He was right over there I mean it's right against the fence line," said a construction worker who works nearby and saw the wreckage.
Officials confirm that no one was hurt and say the only materials that leaked from the derailed cars were ethanol alcohol and hydraulic cement, which are non-toxic and non-hazardous.
Cleanup is expected to be finished by late Saturday.
The cause of the derailment is still under investigation, but foul play or a traffic crash have been ruled out, officials say.
“We are fortunate that this derailment did not result in any fatalities, injuries, or major property damage. I want to commend all of the agencies and personnel for their quick and collaborative response to this large-scale cleanup. I also want to give credit to the local businesses who have been more than accommodating in facilitating the cleanup efforts," said Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer.
